This past June I worked at Art Basel. I would go out at night to bars in which I had a hard time communicating with people. You see I only speak English. I found that if I asked people if I could take their picture with them wearing a pair of $3.00 sun glasses, that broke the ice. Many would ask if this was art and I would say no, just a way to say hello. I would say that at least 80% of the people asked to be photographed said yes. Most of the people are strangers some are friends. As the number of photos grew I realized that the true persona came through in the final image. People were free as they believed to be wearing a mask. I would only take one shot per person. I never told them what to do or how to wear the glasses. The title of the project came from me telling people that Paris Hilton had givin me the glasses in Miami.
